Summary:
Played 2 of the 3 9s (National and Players) in early May02 and was very impressed with the quality. It's a well maintained and enjoyable golf course. Challenging yet fair. They also have a good website with hole descriptions, but be sure to buy the yardage book in the pro shop as "local knowledge" is important to shot selection. A fun test of your course management and a must-play in HH area.

WARNING:

I would not rent from Resort Rentals of Hilton Head Island. This includes Lancaster Resort Rentals, the Villa Rental Company, and properties in Paradise, which all make up Resort Rentals of Hilton Head Island.

Reason - You will not be able to get your deposit back if you have to change plans. If you cancel within 90 days of the rental date, they will not refund your deposit. I travel all over the country and use lots of rental companies and hotels. This is the ONLY company that I have ever dealt with that will keep your money if a problem arises and you give them advanced notice that you will not be able to keep your reservation.

Fairness - You may be thinking, "they were unable to rent the property because of your cancelled reservation." Not true! My reservation was for the busiest week that Hilton Head Island has ever experienced. Not only was this the week that most kids were out of school for spring break, but the famous WorldCom Classic golf tournament was being held this same week. Their was not a hotel room or villa to be found within two weeks of my reservation date. Not one!

Actions - I called Resort Rentals several weeks prior to my reservation to cancel. The lady that I talked to said that if they are able to re-rent the villa for that week, I can get my deposit back. I called several times to check and see if the villa had been rented, when finally, the week before the reservation date, I was transferred to the manager of Resort Rentals of Hilton Head Island. Apparently the villa had been rented once again at this point. The manager told me that I would not get my deposit back ($350+) even if they do rent it out, because they had to give my deposit to the owners.

It gets better - The reason the I had to cancel was because a family member was scheduled to go into surgery that week. The surgery could not be delayed. I finally asked if I could go ahead and rent the villa for the week even thought I would not be able to stay the entire week. I was told that in order to do this, I would have to pay a $71.00 cleaning fee, another $350+ deposit (on top of the one I already paid), and the remainder of the rental amount for the week. So now, not only were they going to keep my deposit, but they were going to charge me another deposit, plus a cleaning fee that I didn't have to pay the first time.

These people are crooks (in my opinion)! Don't deal with them. If you want a great rental in Hilton Head Island, call Marriott Resort Rentals. The prices were better and the villa was much nicer.

Things happen and sometimes you have to change your plans. Don't get stuck loosing your hard earned vacation money to crooks (in my opinion) like Resort Rentals of Hilton Head Island. A respectable company will refund your money on the spot if you are not happy with the room for any reason. Try the Holiday Inn, for example. I rented a room at Folly Beach. When I got there, the room was less than I expected. They refunded my money on the spot. Another example. I rented a villa at Kiawah Island (much nicer than Hilton Head). I decided not to stay the entire three days. They had no problem deducting the third night off my bill. Any respectable rental company will do this. It is good business. Don’t chance it with Resort Rentals of Hilton Head Island.

Summary:
This is a very nice course. The course is always in excellent condition and has a beautiful clubhouse. Defintely worth playing if you are in Hilton Head.
