We stopped with our cruisship in Funchal and so we thought, lets have a quick round on this pretty well known course.
It was a good decision.
Palheiro golf is up on the hill overlooking wonderful Funchal.
Just driving on the property was nice. It was all well kept.
The course itself was for the most part in excellent oondition. However, some areas were left out a little of the good care. The greens were good and the fairways nicely cut. For the most part there is lots of room to play, but some holes require very accurate play.
There is 4 or 5 set of tees, so you can really play with any level. I played the pro tees and they are great.
The views are fantastic at times. Overseening the ocean and Funchal. After the front 9 you will come to a little snack bar, which is nice. Walking the course is like a little hike. An e caddy is helpful.
The driving range is not as great. It is too short and there is not many spots. But good enough to get warmed up and ready. The walk to the and of the range is more warming up though.
The clubhouse has everything you need and the views from the deck are second to none.
Prices in the restaurante are good.
The proshop is alright, but as often in Europe, not exactly blowing anyones mind. Prices in the shop are too high, bring some balls if you can.
Overall, if you ever are on the island and have the chance, play this course. It is a nice experience and if the sun is out you are in for something special.
Everything is going smooth on this course. From check in to tee off, all goes fast and people are very helpful and friendly. Service in the restaurant is excellent and fast. We only had some drinks, so we can not say anything about the food.
