| | Reviewed by: TommyG, Shoots in the 100s Summary: If you want to get stung by hornets, then this course is for you. Hornets everywhere! Lost two balls in the bunkers because the hornets wanted it more than we did. Swarmed on the ball and would let us no where near it. Decent course but in the last two years the hornets have gotten completely out of control and are in 30-40% of all bunkers on the front nine. Customer Service: Usually very average, but awful last time. When told about the hornets, the guy in the pro shop said, "the owner knows about it. Don't bother the hornets and they won't bother you." Wow! How condescending and rude. So, it's my fault if the hornets swarm the ball in the bunker and chase me off the tee? Similar Courses Played: Go to Lake of the Woods instead, or Indian Springs or Brookhill. All similar to Willow Pond with better customer service and few if any HORNETS!

| | Reviewed by: Jerry, Shoot in the 90s, from Kenosha, WI Summary: A pleasant surprise about 20 minutes north of Champaign off of Highway 45 in Rantoul. I went to visit my son who is attending college in Champaign, and we planned to spend some time playing golf. We found Willow Pond by using this web site.
The golf course is located on the closed Chanute Air Force base. The Air Force facilities are starting to look run down as they are being recycled for other usage, but this doesn't affect the beauty of the course. Actualy, it adds to the experience. You can just imagine the hustle and bustle of days gone by when the officers got to play a round of golf between flights. Now, your concentration will not be interrupted by a fighter jet taking off.
The course is in excellent shape, and well maintained. The fairways were freshly cut, almost short enough to putt on. The greens were vast, perfectly groomed, so that it felt like putting on a pool table. No margin for error.
We played from the white tees, but still found the length of the course quite a challenge. Most of the par 4's are over 400 yards. One par 3 was over 200 yards. There is a feel of playing on a course that is laid out for professional level golfers. (The club house manager mentioned that in the past, it had been used for the Hooter's qualifying tour.)
Overall, our visit to Willow Pond was a wonderful golfing experience!
Customer Service: Friendly and courteous staff. Tee times were easy to get.
