| | Reviewed by: Phillip Myers, Shoot in the 80s, from Pleasantville Summary: If you can overcome the way the owners of the course treat the customers (very rude), you will enjoy this course. In fact, my advice is to ignore them completely and enjoy your game anyway.
The country setting of Shady Oaks will lure you into overconfidence if your not careful. The course added a back 9 in recent years which really makes this course an attraction for south central Iowa golfers wanting an cheap 18-hole challenge.
The tees are rough and need better maintenence (be careful of making suggestions to the greenskeeper, he can be a real jerk most of the time). Greens are Iowa slow and well kept. The hills will wear you out quick so my advice is to rent one of their '70 vintage carts to get you around.
If your from out-of-state, please don't judge the demeanor of all Iowans on the lovely pair that operate the course. Apparently, they take no shit from anyone and would love for you to ruin a good day of golf. Customer Service: Tee times required on Fri, Sat, & Sun. Not needed necessarily but they like to think they are running the US Open on weekends. Similar Courses Played: Buy everything BEFORE you come to golf.
