| | Reviewed by: cubs292, Shoots in the 90s Summary: The lush green fairways of North Shore Country Club, combined with their smooth, quick greens make the course difficult and enjoyable. With fairly open fairways and fairway bunkers on almost every hole, each tee shot presents its own challenge. For example, the ninth hole on the red course (one of the Club's three nines) epitomizes the course's fairways. The hole begins with a tee shot towards a slight dog leg right, where if you choose to stay left you face the possibility of hitting the soft, white sand of the fairway bunker; however, the player also has the opportunity to take it right over the tall, skinny trees, and with enough distance, land it in the lush green fairway 175 yards out. The second shot is also a typical shot at the golf course. With a view of the white club house past the slightly elevated green, and the white and black checkered North Shore Country Club flag waving in the wind, the player aims to the right center of the green to avoid the sand on the left. The sloping green, sliding towards the front, provides a quick put due to being rolled multiple times a week.
Elevated, slightly sloping, and quick greens are the norm at North Shore – always surrounded by the newly redone greenside bunkers filled with the pearly white sand. Another new addition to the sand traps is the blending of the bunker with the grass – thus taking away the ridge and giving the course a much cleaner look. Furthermore, with the recent removal of many trees along the edges of the fairways, the course became more open and scenic, while still maintaining its level of difficulty.
