Additional Info:
This 18-hole par 71 layout is designed and built by the Roger Rulewich Group, and plays from 5,111 to 6,912 yards. Carved out of a woodland tract, this links-style course has many elevation changes, and rolling, tree-lined fairways that lead up to undulating greens of varying size and moderate speed. One of the top public courses in the Northeast.

Summary:
Overall, I was impressed by the course. Great variety, memorable holes, plenty of opportunity to let the driver loose. The course is mostly right in front of you.

My only complaint is that the front and back 9's are like different courses. The front has a nice parkland feel, winding through the forest. Conditions were still the day I played. The back nine is out in the open and suddenly wind became a large factor which was startling, and also damaging to the score! There were also a lot of ball marks that were poorly repaired and impacted the putting. more proof that most of the golfing public should be certified to play, IMHO! Would definitely return.

Summary:
Played on 8/13/2010 - a disappointment! While it's a great layout, the tee and green conditioning was terrible! Tees all gouged up - YO! ever hear of moving the markers once in a while? And the greens need work too - covered with unrepaired ball scars and needed rolling badly. A shame because a little attention from the greenskeeper could make this a superior - rather than average experience.

The layout is super. Very scenic with a some good elevation changes. Several shifts from parkland to links type holes add to the interest level. Love the finishing #18.

A challenge from the blacks and blues - a layup from the whites.

Just to reiterate - the superintendent should seriously address the tee and green conditioning. You really expect much better conditioning from a "premium" course. Until he does, this track will remain an overrated, overpriced, mediocre golf experience.

Customer Service:
Excellent - attentive but not overbearing.

Similar Courses Played:
Great River, Wintonbury, and Gillette Ridge are all better cared for - good challenges and a fraction of the cost.

Summary:
Fox Hopyard has a beautiful layout that uses the natural Connecticut woods wonderfully. Knowing you distances is a must in order to deal with the many forced carries and doglegs on the course. Tee boxes here are in better shape than most public courses greens and the fairways and rough are carefully manicured. The greens are very fast and roll true. Unfortunately they were not in the best condition the day that I played. I found out later that they had had several scrambles in the days before I had played and the greens had been hit pretty hard. This normally would not bother me but when you pay $150 dollars to play a course you want everything to be perfect. I was also shocked to find that not only is there an extra charge to use the driving range you are also charged for a yardage book. All in all the beauty of the course wins out over the smaller issues; this is a course that everyone should play at least once. Players are also treated to one of the most amazing finishing holes around.

Customer Service:
Beautiful clubhouse and proshop with service to match.

Summary:
One of the top 3 public courses in the state. Remote location, but worth the drive. Golf course has challenging risk/reward holes, and hitting your clubs exact distances is critical. There are a number of carries over hazards and beginners will be frustrated (and lose a lot of balls.) But its a great challeng for a better player. Facilities and restaurant are also georgeous.

Excellent
