| | Reviewed by: Five Angels, Shoots in the 90s Summary: Fun Course. Front nine is links style, the back nine is more American, wooded type layout. Good variety here makes it an interesting course to play! The course can be found in good shape, consistently.
Not overly difficult, but not a grip and rip course either - great for an intermediate golfer trying to improve and have fun. Greens offer some bunker protection, but they aren't laden with them, either.
The only detraction is the lack of a range.
Customer Service: Staff is friendly and helpful. Often the course runs discounts and specials and the greens fees are reasonable for the quality of course.

| | Reviewed by: jenkata, Shoots in the 80s Summary: I don't know how they do it. The place is always in great condition. Play used to be a bit slow, but they figured that out as well because we breezed through on a busy Sunday. This course has a nice combination of challenging shots and tremendous conditions. Definitely one of the best publics in New England. Customer Service: I read the reviews about the trailer for a clubhouse, but that was long ago. This place has a great clubhouse complete with great little pro-shop and an excellent 19th hole. On a nice day you can sit on the deck, smoke a cigar and unwind after a perfect day of golf. If you've had enough of the outdoors, there's a great little lounge. I agree with the review about Lyman Doane, he is the nicest guy. It must be rubbing off because the rest of the staff seems pretty friendly as well. Similar Courses Played: The course needs a driving range.

| | Reviewed by: golf junkie, Shoots in the 80s Summary: I found Riverbend both challenging and inviting. The course conditions were as good as any public course that I have played. We played from the tips (gold tees) and I suggest you do the same to truly enjoy this track. Customer Service: Warm and friendly. Similar Courses Played: Small intimate clubhouse made for a great 19th hole and completed a beautiful day.

| | Reviewed by: ericfebs, Shoots in the 70s Summary: The course is always is pretty good shape. if you ask any staff there, they say immaculate. They've finally allowed carts on the course (formerly paths only) but only on some holes, and only some of the time. I agree that the place has a serious divot problem, but that's because the place is built on a former swamp and the course is usually wet in the spring and early summer.
Be warned, the staff and rangers are major a-holes. The pro, Lyman Doane, is the nicest person you'll ever meet, but the owner (curley haired balding guy) is a real big prick. Customer Service: AWEFUL!

| | Reviewed by: Bob , Shoot in the 90s, from Watertown, MA Summary: I agree with what the previous reviewer said. Best way to describe this course - over-priced.
The course is bent grass, which is nice. But it seems either the local players are divot-replace-impaired, or the grounds staff is.
What is the most abhorrent about this course, though, is that they require players to pay for and use carts on the weekends, but carts must stay on the path. I need help with the logic... if the purpose of carts is to speed pace of play, then the math does not work, unless you are able to place your ball next to the cart path on each shot. Not surprisingly, because of this ridiculous combination of rules, pace of play is really, really slow. River Bend staff argues carts are required to maintain course condition. Hint to River Bend management - worry about divot repair first. Use of carts ain't helping your course condition problems.
I would not play this course again except under direct orders, or unless someone else is paying. Similar Courses Played: None
