| | Reviewed by: Mike, Shoot in the 80s, from Vienna, VA, USA Summary: North Hills, sometimes called "The Augusta of the North", is regarded as the number 1 public course in the tri-state area. Located in a valley 30 miles east of Erie, PA, the 18-hole layout is blessed with rich, thick turf, thanks to generous rainfall borne on the winds which travel eastward over Lake Erie. The avid golfer lives to play an outstanding course. Time and travel are not deterrents. So, it's not unusual to find golfers from Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and points in between waiting on the No. 1 tee.
The greens and tees are large and lush. Some of the fairways are wide open and allow you to grip it and rip it while others are narrow and tree lined requiring more careful placement of your tee shot. Course rating is 69.6/125 from the Blue tees.
The course opened in 1966 as a 9-hole venue and the back nine was added in 1971. The course architect was Edmund Ault. Similar Courses Played: None
