    Summary:
Merion oozed tradition and golf history. I played both East (new) and West (old) courses during the Pennsylvania Mid-Amateur several years ago. Undulated, and extremely fast greens that are as smooth as linoleum. The rough is punishing. Driving through this part of Philadelphia it is virtually implausible that a golf course could be found there. The West course is longer with bigger greens, but at slightly over 5300 (as I recall) the East course was a real test of accuracy. The clubhouse is very old, but classy. That famous Hogan picture hitting the 1-iron from the 18th fairway in the U.S. Open hangs at the top of the stairway to the second floor. You have to feel honored to play there; not everyone will ever get the chance.

    Summary:
I played Merion WEST, this was the course Ben Hogan won the US OPEN. Absolutely surreal experience not matched by any other course I have ever played. Its extremely short, because it is pretty much in the original condition that it used to be. I was playing golf with a PGA Pro last year who worked at a club in PA. He told me that he couldn't get on to either one of the courses at this club, so if a pro with connections cant get on, you will feel very lucky to play here. Absolutely fantastic place to golf!

    Summary:
How does one review one of the 10 greatest courses in the world except to say that every time I've had the opportunity to play this grand dame of american golf, it has been an honor and a thrill. Classic architecture that has withstood the test of every great golfer in the 20th century. From Bobby Jones to Nicklaus, they have all walked this extraordinary parcel of land set in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Beg, borrow and steal if you have a chance to play here.

    Customer Service:
This is a first class private club. The staff is extraordinary.
