Played here 6-25-07, based on Golf Digest rankings of Alaska courses. Superior design, and optimal use of the terrain and vegetation. No two holes look alike, not even the par 3's, and it's a very nice golfing experience. Now the downside: it is Alaska, with a short growing season, so the fairways aren't as lush as you might expect for such a highly ranked course, nor are the greens as true and fast. Having said that, Eagleglen is a very nice golf experience, with great scenery. Conditions today: tee boxes were in nice shape: fairways pretty good, but thin in many spots: first cut rough was VERY patchy with thin grass and lots of dandelions: second cut rough is GNARLY and punitive: bunkers are plentiful, with a heavy grained sand, but are very playable: greens are moderately sized, lightly contoured (if at all), and played slow. The course has a good bit of water on it, very skilfully integrated into the design. Terrain is pretty flat, so the course is walkable. I recommend you hook up with an experienced player, because even with a yardage book, there are enough quirks to cause some trouble: I was paired up with some locals, and they were very helpful in keeping me out of my usual troubles! In a word, excellent! Snack bar is a good spot for lunch, and the pro shop, though small, is well-stocked, with a friendly staff. Starter was very professional and a credit to the course management. Similar Courses Played:
