| | Reviewed by: EV, Shoot in the 90s, from San Francisco Summary: This is a great course. Very well manicured fairways and greens. Great drainage, it has been raining in this area relatively hard for weeks and I had a chance to play when there was a break in the weather where it hadn't rained for a couple days and this course was completely dry without a even a hint of the previous rainfall at all.
The course is so well maintained that your tee shots would roll all the way to the greens if it wasn't for the undulating fairways. Unfortunately your ball would probably roll right off the green at the same time because these greens are extremely fast and undulating. You have to have a great amount of spin on your approach shot to have your ball stick on the greens. If you aren't careful, you'll be three putting or even four putting.
This course can be a monster when the wind is blowing. The day I played the wind was blowing hard for the first 6 holes but had calmed down for the rest of my round. Which is fortunate because you don't want the wind blowing in your face for the 18th hole. I believe this is there signature hole and it has to be my favorite hole. The hole is shaped like a 7, you have to tee off over a ravine to a clearing that looks rather close but is very deceiving so you should use a club or two longer unless you are going to use a driver playing the safe way which is to follow the 7-shaped fairway to the hole, but the fairway gets a little narrow and doing this makes it a long par 4 or even a par 5 though it is a par 4 on the scorecard. If you layup to the clearing you can decide on hitting a 175 yard shot to the green over the same ravine that extends all the way to the green for a chance at birdie. But this is hoping that the wind isn't blowing in your face waiting to knock down your shot into the ravine.
Since this course is on the side of a mountain you get some great views. This is also a semi-private course and there is talk that it will soon be private by mid-2001. Right now I believe anyone in the public can play anytime tuesday thru thursday and after 12 noon on fridays. The weekends and holidays are strictly for members. I got my tee time at an auction site so my foursome only paid $20 each with cart which is a great deal since regular rates are $70 per person on weekdays. Here is the website to bid for their tee times: http://www.onsale.com/category/Golf_Tee_Times~2~1.htm
Similar Courses Played: Well stocked proshop. Range in good shape hitting off grass during weekdays and off mats on weekends.
