| | Reviewed by: chef7591, Shoots in the 80s Summary: I played here the day before Pebble. Second group off, and we quickly played through the foursome ahead of us. My home course is tree lined, so my game translated pretty well. Take a caddie, and enjoy the walk. Top notch conditioning, very playable but of course the greens can be very difficult. My caddy was so good, I had him carry for me at Pebble as well. Not a hint of disresepct for my game or my swing, and genuinely added to my experience. Overall, first rate course all the way around. Customer Service: tops. Ron, my caddy, was great. Similar Courses Played: Pebble

| | Reviewed by: tdrasler@yahoo.com, Shoots in the 80s Summary: I'm fortunate to play Spyglass several times each year and it ranks as one of my favorites in Northern California. When the winds off the ocean are down the first five holes can lull a golfer into a false sense of security. The next 13 holes winding through the Del Monte Forest are not to be taken lightly. The course plays longer from each tee box than the yardage indicates and shot placement off the tee is a premium in order to have a good approach on your second shot. It's truly a wonderful golf experience to walk the course with one of the Spyglass Hill caddies. Customer Service: True to form as part of Pebble Beach Resorts - the service is excellent. Similar Courses Played: This is a cart path only course. Unless you absolutely require a cart to play golf, it's a course that should be walked with a caddy to enjoy the full experience of playing Spyglass Hill.

| | Reviewed by: Jay, Shoot in the 80s, from Coppell, TX Summary: have had the priviledge of playing twice, the first time, a roaring thunderstorm late in the day, that even the locals called the worst in forty years, nearly ruined our day. But when the skies cleared at 5:45, my partner and I were the only ones left on the course, and played the back nine all by ourselves, as the skies cleared, and fog rose from the ground, and sunlight pierced the pines draped with moss....VERY NICE...
Played a second time 9 months later, and I believe this is by far the greatest test of golf that the public has access to in the US...period. great greens, great tees, great fairways, great proshop, had no trouble with pace of play, only real downer is the driving range.... | | Reviewed by: Joe, Shoot in the 90s, from Tampa, FL, USA Summary: Approaches the religious experience that golf should be. A real test for even mid-handicappers. Lots of Pacific Coast beauty on display here, even though the ocean views are limited (play Pebble Beach). But hey, there's more to the Carmel geography than water. Enjoy Spyglass for what it is...a place of spectacular beauty. The course takes full advantage of the topography of the area, with uphill and downhill shots, sweeping doglegs, and long par-5's. Spend the money on a caddy, or you'll never figure out the break on the greens. I had several putts that I read with about 12 inches of right-to-left break, that the caddy told me to hit 3 inches to the LEFT of the holes. Whew! Speaking of the caddies...mine was really good, but I was a 24 handicap when I played there (I shot a 92 - and felt like I played pretty well...), and he kept deriding my shots more and more as the round went on. I'm sure it's tough for a caddie who probably plays to a single-digit handicap to be patient with a relative hacker. But I was hitting some shots that were pretty good for me at the time, and he kept telling what a crappy shot I'd hit. Come on caddies - you are in the service industry, and it's your job to make the customer feel good. This happened twice, with two different caddies, so maybe it's something Spyglass need to work on.
