| | Reviewed by: Patrick Rasmussen, Shoots in the 80s, from Nashville, TN Summary: Capon Springs is an excellent family resort. The golf course is moderately challenging with a beautiful view of the mountains. Most guest play 9 holes in the morning and 9 in the afternoon. The course is very forgiving for the novice golpher like myself. The course is well maintained. I would recommend a week at Capon to anyone. Customer Service: Outstanding! Second to none... Similar Courses Played: Homestyle family resort, without all of the hussle and bussle of the big city. You can relax, play golf, eat till you explode, walk the various nature trails, or just sit and read a book in the hammoc

| | Reviewed by: Keith Kimberl, Shoot in the 80s, from Ashburn, VA Summary: I've been playing this course for about 20 years (and been going to the resort for over 30). It's a well-maintained, natural course that won't overwhelm you. The holes tend to be short, except for a 238-yard par 3. There is one par-5 easily reachable in two for longer hitters (card says 511, more like 460, though plays uphill). There are two other par 3s. The rest are par 4s of the short-to-medium length.
The course does not punish you for off-line shots too much - you can usually do something with your next shot, with some exceptions. The owners recognize that most of its users are probably hackers, so the focus is on enjoyment and relaxation.
As I said, the course is well-maintained, though not as tighly manicured as some upper-crust courses. The greens, mowed about every other day, tend to be soft and on the slow side (but some slopes will take your ball off the green if you're not careful). My only real complaint is that I wish the tee boxes we're mowed closer - they don't seem to be much different than the fairway.
There's also a little 9-hole par 3 course that can be played for free provided you play the regulation course, too. Great for the kids and your short game. It's the course where I cut my teeth playing the game.
Customer Service: Informal, family-run resort. They've been very good to us over the years. Similar Courses Played: You can only play the course if you are a guest at the resort. I highly recommend a trip if you are seeking a nice, relaxing vacation or if you are planning a group getaway.

| | Reviewed by: James Warren, Shoot in the 100s, from Rockville Summary: I have been playing at this resort for years. Fun, extremely well maintained, a neat location in the hills of WV, in an unusual resort. Each hole is unique, with two sets of tees for several of the holes (only 9 of them) to allow for an ersatz 18. There's a cooler filled with ginger-ale and apple juice after the 5th tee. Customer Service: No tee times. Great people Similar Courses Played: None

| | Reviewed by: Edwin Lear, Shoot in the 80s, from Spotsylvania, VA USA Summary: Only nine holes, private. You must be a guest at the resort to play. Plenty of challenges, with small greens and lots of rolling topography (it's in the mountains, after all). The 9-hole course has three par threes (although one is a healthy 238 yards, and is nicknamed easy bogey!). The shortest of the par threes is termed postage stamp (very descriptive) and will demand a very accurate shot to stay out of trouble. Similar Courses Played: None
